It’s almost college basketball fever time!

Starting March 13th, 68 teams will be hitting the courts to kick-off March Madness®, and that means millions of people will be filling out their brackets and watching the games during a three week period – and a large percentage of those people will be watching and checking their brackets online!

Sounds like an opportunity for some social marketing to us!

You might think that March Madness® is a time for businesses to target only the sports fanatic. Well think again. Fruchtman Marketing has come up with a fun Facebook promotion that can get both him and her excited for some “hoops”!

Here’s the scoop on the hoops:

It’s called the Score Some Hoops sweepstakes and it’s a little play on words…

During the college basketball tournament, participating jewelers will host a Score Some Hoops sweepstakes on their Facebook page. Contestants can enter the sweepstakes through a third-party app on Facebook to win a pair of hoop earrings (of the jeweler’s choice).

We will use a fan-gated page and Facebook advertising to drive people to their page (their current fans can also enter). We will then gather contestants’ information, such as email, name and address, using the third-party app. There is no limit as to how many people can enter; however, there is only one entry per person.

So, while the basketball fanatic is filling out their brackets, the jewelry fanatic can fill out their sweepstakes form for a chance to win a great pair of hoops!
